Delivery management system supports bakery business expansion

West London based bakery supplier has recently transformed in more ways than one with the installation of a fully integrated delivery management system followed by an exciting new business acquisition.

Supplying authentic French and European baked goods to restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and coffee shops throughout London, the Company Directors at this expanding bakery identified the need to implement a system to integrate all areas of the business, increasing accuracy levels and reducing the amount of paperwork and manual entry carried out by  office staff.

Bakery Managing Director comments, “It was essential that we found a system that was scalable and that could continue to manage our business before, during and after the planned expansion. With the Mobile Enterprise Systems solution we were able to select the modules that we needed at the time of installation with the option of adding additional modules as and when required”.

With the new system, incoming sales orders are received and processed automatically, the goods are picked using the wave picking module then allocated to the drivers. Proof of delivery is recorded with a signature being captured directly on the handheld computer and the only printed document is the customer’s invoice, printed by the driver using a handheld printer. The completed order data and proof of delivery can be sent back to the office in real-time, providing the management and office team with an immediate report of completed orders by driver. The bakery can now proudly say that they are operating an almost paperless zone with streamlined administration and far greater business insight, as well as saving a huge amount of time and most importantly, substantially reducing costs.

Shortly after the system went live, the bakery business successfully acquired a specialist frozen bakery distributor, transforming the business into a national operation with additional depots across the UK and an extended fleet of delivery vehicles, and all operations are now controlled using the Mobile Enterprise Systems delivery management solution.
